A Message from Lindy on the Quadriciser:

I've talked about the Quadriciser on some of the updates I’ve written on this website but it dawned on me that I’ve never included a picture of it or a link to
it's website. So here is a picture of Ryan in the
Quadriciser in a lowered position which allows us to move Ryan’s body in a straighter line than sitting up which may feel more like walking than riding a bike. The man with us is Larry Bohannan, the designer of the
Quadriciser.
I believe that the fact that Ryan has been able to use a
Quadriciser almost everyday for the last few years has contributed to his circulation and relaxation of his spasticity. I wonder if we would have been able to wean Ryan off of his baclofen medication without the movement made possible by this machine. After using it Ryan’s arms and legs are noticeably more relaxed and daily use of it has allowed him not to be in a constant state of excessive tone.
Also, the pattern of moving his legs as if bicycling has definitely reminded the leg muscles how to move that way. I had written last year in an update while we were at the Centre for Neuroskills about Ryan actually riding a
recumbent bike moving his legs on his own. After my shock and joy initially, I realized that it
shouldn't have surprised me. Everything Ryan has been able to do on his on has had
to be motored by someone or something else for him repetatively and then he eventually is able to do it himself without help, such as throwing a ball, feeding himself, leaning forward in his wheelchair or extending his legs.
I highly recommend the Quadriciser to anyone who is unable to move on their own as I believe it will improve the body’s circulation, improve the person’s sense of well-being since we are designed to move, lessen spasticity if that’s a problem and maybe even remind the body how to do these movements on its own. Thank you, Larry
Bohannan.
